National Insurance Company

The oldest existing insurance company in India, National Insurance Company (NIC) was incorporated in 1906 and is headquartered in Kolkata, India's former capital. It had carried out general insurance business under private management until 1972 when it was nationalized (since the notification of the General Insurance Business (Nationalization) Amendment Act of August 2002, National Insurance has become a Government of India undertaking). The company has an organizational network of over 964 offices with over 20,000 trained workforces and it also operates in other regions such as Hongkong and Nepal and is ranked among the top global business insurers (in 2003, National Insurance Company had earned international recognition as one of the top five General Insurance Companies in the Asia Pacific, at the Asia Insurance Industry Awards at Singapore).The NIC provides a wide range of products to cater to the diverse insurance requirements of 10 million policyholders.
