Golden Rule Insurance Company is a major health insurance company for individuals, life insurance, and annuities. It was founded on November 16, 1940, by Michael Andrew and his wife, Mary Frances, as a family business in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the USA. In 1948, Michael and Mary's son, Pat along with Frank Ladner had set up L & R Insurance Agency, Inc. , a general agency to serve the sales needs of Golden Rule. The company saw steady growth and its employees increased from 32 in 1959 to over 150 in 1970. Golden Rule was accredited with "A" (Excellent) rating for the first time in June 1985 by A.M. Best, thanks to its financial strength and stability. It has also been recognized by Ward Group as one of the 50 Life-Health “Top Performers” companies in the US.
