Company Profile :

CIGNA (NYSE: CI ) insurance company (largely an employee benefit insurance company) was formed in 1982 when the Insurance Company of North America (INA) and the Connecticut General Life Insurance Company (CG) were merged. CIGNA [Tagline 'A Business of Caring'] is the oldest stock insurance company in the United States, and is based in Philadelphia. In 1998, CIGNA sold its individual life insurance business to Lincoln National Corporation, while in 1999 it sold its property and casualty insurance business to the ACE Limited. In 2000, it sold its reinsurance business to Swiss Re and in 2004, it sold its pension business to Prudential Financial. However in 2006 CIGNA acquired Star HRG (an operating division of HealthMarkets, Inc.) which provides voluntary, limited benefit, low-cost health plans and other employee benefits coverage for hourly and part-time workers and their families.
