The company along with all other related Wisconsin-based companies employ approximately 2,200 employees. In 2001, Blue Cross and Blue Shield United of Wisconsin had converted to a for-profit company and combined with United Wisconsin Services to form a new parent entity called Cobalt Corporation. In 2003, Blue Cross & Blue Shield United of Wisconsin's parent company, Cobalt Corporation, had merged with WellPoint Health Networks.
