Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) has been catering to the health needs of the state of New Mexico, the US, for over 65. The BCBSNM and HMO New Mexico (HMONM) offer a complete range of health plans, and serve over 252,000 individuals, employees, and family members. The company also serves as the fiscal intermediary for Contract Health Services (CHS) , administers the State of New Mexico Medical Insurance Pool (NMMIP) for uninsured individuals, besides providing utilization review for the New Mexico Medicaid Program. In July 2001, BCBSNM was acquired by Health Care Service Corporation , a Mutual Legal Reserve Company and Independent Licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.

1. Coverage for Individuals and Families (those who buy their own health insurance) :

• Plans for those under 65 years of age:
• Blue Transitions (short-term health insurance for those temporarily uninsured)
• BlueChoice and BlueChoice Plus (designed especially for people under 65 who do not receive health insurance from an employer. This can cover students, self-employed, people who are between jobs, seniors or retirees who do not yet qualify for Medicare, and children)
• BlueEdge HSA for Individuals (coverage for adult and child Preventive Care and Wellness)
• New Mexico Medical Insurance Pool (NMMIP) (enables private health insurers to help New Mexicans who have been denied health insurance)
