Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Georgia (BCBSGA) is a top-ranked health care/insurance company in the state of Georgia, the US. It provides, together with its branded affiliates, health care services to more than 3.3 million members. However Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia did not exist initially. The original entity was called the Atlanta Blue Cross Plan (founded in 1937). In 1939 came the Savannah Plan, followed by the Columbus Plan in 1946. These entities were merged in 1966 and subsequently the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia/Columbus was realized. In 1985, the Columbus and Atlanta organizations had merged to form Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia.
