Established in 1933, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota aims to promote a wide, economical and timely availability of health services for the inhabitants of Minnesota.
As the largest health insurer in Minnesota, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota provides health coverage to nearly 2.8 million members besides serving more than 125,000 members enrolled in government-sponsored programs and nearly 185,000 members enrolled in Medicare programs. The company is also one of the first in the US to have offered consumer-directed health plans.

- MedicareBlue Rx (offers standard Medicare Part D or two enhanced drug coverage options)

- Extended Basic Blue (covers Medicare coinsurance and deductibles, extra days in a skilled nursing facility, and others)

- Basic Medicare Blue (makes up for Medicare coinsurance gaps for hospital and medical services)

5. Medical Assistance Programs including:

- MinnesotaCare (for those having no access to affordable health care coverage)

- Prepaid Medical Assistance Program (provides health care services for low-income families, children, pregnant women and people aged 65 years or older or are disabled)

- Prepaid General Assistance Medical Care program (covers medical care for Minnesotans who do not qualify for medical assistance or other state-funded or federal health care programs)
