Sukabumi is a city and regency situated in the highlands of west Java, Indonesia. It has a cool climate, and is a minor hill station resort.
Located at an altitude of approximately 600 meters, the city has a climate substantially cooler than other surrounding places, and so is a minor hill station resort. The colonial police academy was situated in Sukabumi in the times of the Dutch colonialism. The city is surrounded by scenic locations, and is very popular for people who like white water rafting.
Nearby attractions include the Lido lake, a lake surrounded by greenery, with boat rides being available. Lido also has a resort. The floating restaurant at Lido is popular destination, serving Sundanese food.
The Pondok Halimun tea plantation offers visitors with a chance to take walks in the tea gardens, with ethereal beauty in the surroundings.
Arung jeram or rafting is immensely popular in Sukabumi, with many companies providing gear and guides to visitors who might want a spot of fun and adventure. The Pelabuhan Ratu Beach ideal place to visit and relax.
The Nusa Traditional Cottage is an interesting location. The cottages are made of wood or bamboos, and have a sitting area, called bale-bale. These cottages use terracotta and ceramic for items of daily use like dishes, bowls, jars and tubs.
These attractions, along with the cool weather, make Sukabumi a much desirable place for tourists and Indonesians alike. Accommodation is available, as is varied kinds of food. The place has many food stalls, which sell interesting fare like es cendol – a Traditional mock tail made of coconut milk, brown sugar jelly, and rice flour jelly. Tofu, sweet potatoes and fermented cassava are other popular fare.
