Lombok

Lombok is one of the most beautiful tourist's sites of Indonesia. The island of Lombok is blessed with magnificent beaches and majestic volcanoes. This island falls within the Smaller Sunda Islands chain of Indonesia.

The island was inhabited in the seventeenth century by the Dutch and before that the island was ruled by the Hindu ruler of Bali. The island is still not commercialized by the tourism industry like Bali. The island is also very near to Bali and just crossing the Lombok strait will take you to the island of Lombok. The Sasak people of Indonesia are the main inhabitants of Lombok and these people though of Balinese descent are followers of Islam.

The island of Lombok does not have state of the art infrastructure like Bali but the natural beauty and versatility is no doubt more. Tourism is not yet a big thing in Lombok so the visitors can enjoy a tranquil vacation on their own. Hiking on the diverse landscape or diving into the sea is the two major activities which the tourists can indulge in. The island of Lombok can be visited during the festivals. The celebrations are concentrated during the harvest season and rainy seasons. Pura Meru, Perang Ketupat and Pujawali are the other few religious events which are celebrated in Lombok.

The main places of attractions in Lombok are, Gili Islands, Kuta, Museum Negeri Nusa Tenggara Barat and Taman Narmada. So while in Indonesia to get the taste of the country's unexplored and virgin landscape make plans to visit Lombok.
