Java is one of the most significant of the seventeen thousand islands of Indonesia. The island of Java has been playing a major role in the history of Indonesia since the ancient era. Even during the colonial expansion it was the important hub of Dutch East Indies. The capital of Indonesia Jakarta is located in Java. It is known all over the world for being the most populated of the entire islands on earth. The island of Java is also one of the prime historical places of the country as it still has remnants of the rich Hindu era of the country which attracts tourists from around the world.
The island of Java hosts a beautiful contrast of tranquil villages and bustling cities. This island is also the cultural and educational hub of this country. The two main mountains on the Java Island are Mount Semeru and Mount Boromo. These are located in the east of the island. The destinations which draw high number of tourist each year are the Buddhist stupa of Borobudur and Hindu temple in Prambanan. Jakarta is also an important tourist center. The Semeru National Park in the island which has an extraordinary volcanic landscape has worldwide fame. The Mt Bromo from which smoke comes out even today can be trekked on foot or climbed on a horse. There is habitation very near to the smoking crater where one can stay for a night.
Like Indonesia Java is also a colorful and versatile place which exhibits the specialties of the country in its own way.
