Museums are plenty and are of several types in Iceland. Iceland has a possession of a wide range of museums and art galleries that are found in many places through out Iceland. These museums that are in Iceland have exciting variety. There are art and artifacts museum in Iceland along with the national museum, fishmuseum and the one of its kind, the Phallological museum.


Iceland can be said to be a country of museums. There are extraordinary range of museums that give delight to the travelers here. Moreover, these museums are also a very reliable medium of demonstrating the heritage of Iceland history. The two most important and much visited museums in Iceland are its Phallological museum and the National museum.



  • Icelandic Phallological Museum: This museum is perhaps the only one of this kind of museum in the whole world. This Phallological museum was established in the interest of advancement in the field of Phallological study. In this museum there are the penis and of almost all the mammals of sea and land who belong to both Iceland and outside Iceland. This museum was established by a teacher, named, Sigurour Hjartarson.

  • National Museum Of Iceland: This museum is located now in the capital Reykjavik. Iceland National museum was established in the year 1863. This museum organizes a number of temporary exhibitions on several topics. But a permanent exhibition is also there in this National museum, called, The Making of A Nation, that concentrates in various aspects of Icelandic history.
There are several other museums in Iceland.
