Iceland Marathon, that is actually known as the Reykjavik Marathon was started in the year 1984. The reason behind the origin of this marathon in Iceland was to encourage the tourists to come and visit this beautiful country. In fact two travel agents started this incredibly popular marathon of Reykjavik. Initially only two hundred and fourteen participants took part in this marathon. But the number of the participants have increased now to a soaring high and more than three thousand with hundreds of foreign participants taking part in the Iceland Marathon.
Iceland Marathon or Reykjavik marathon has several running competitions like full and half marathons, seven and three kilometers fun runs and some others. The path of the marathon is such that takes the participants through a number of breathtaking locations in Iceland including beautiful view of sea and mountain. What attracts the participants to take part in Iceland marathon is the pleasant climate that is very fresh and charming and also the attraction of the sport itself.
Iceland marathon is held each year in the month of August. After the strenuous exercise in the marathon people get the chance to enjoy themselves in the several programs in the Cultural Night Festival.
