Football is a very popular sports among many other sports in Iceland. There are several football teams and leagues in Iceland that plays under several football associations in the country. Football has a wide spread popularity in Iceland and there is Iceland men football teams and women football teams as well. Iceland national football team takes part in the international football competitions along with other countries.
Iceland has several football competitions that are played in the regional level as well in the national level also. Some of the football competitions that are played in Iceland are,
- Deild Karla: This football league started in Iceland from 1955. This league falls under the second division in Iceland football competition division. From this year twelve teams will play in this league.
- Landsbankadeild: This is another famous football league in Iceland. This league is generally played in the summer or spring season. Ten football clubs compete each other in this league.
Iceland has several football clubs as well who compete each other in several league competitions. There are Iceland National Men football team and National Women Football team also in Iceland. Some of the football teams of this country are,
- Iceland National Football Team: This national team is under the supervision of Football Association of Iceland. It is under the confederation of UEFA. Iceland National Football Team has accreditation of FIFA as well. But currently its FIFA ranking is very low. Though at time it was very high.
- Iceland Women's National Football Team: Like the men team, Iceland has its national women soccer team also that has a higher standard in the arena of international football competition.
