The relationship between Iceland and United States goes long back to the days when the Republic of Iceland was established. The relationship between the United States and Iceland is of amity and friendship. Both United States and Iceland are the members of the North Atlantic organization. Very recently the amiable relation between these two countries has undergone considerable pressure due to a whale issue. Iceland had sought for a permission to hunt 39 whales per year for commercial purpose but USA along with other states had not agreed to this proposal.
The first days of Iceland Usa Relations were during the Second World War when the American forces had entered this country. In 1944 when the Republic of Iceland was formed the government of U.S.A was the first country to recognize its official status. The first friendship of America and Iceland started with the Icelandic immigrants in Untied States. There are a number of associations in America of Icelandic Americans and they are able to influence the government to an extent. Corporate also had a big role to play in this relationship as there are number of companies of Iceland doing business in United States.
Both the countries have their own embassies in each other’s country. These embassies aim to create a bond between these two countries in everyway. Not only commercial and political but cultural amity is also aimed at. These embassies also provide adequate information to the citizens of both the countries and put an extra effort in keeping up the good relation.
