The international relations of Iceland are very much associated with the politics of Europe as it belongs to this continent. Iceland has been an important nation in the international arena for quite a long time and even today it continues to be so. Though an integral part of Europe the weirdest part of Iceland's international relation is that it not a member of the European Union. Iceland has never even applied to be a part of the European Union. Though not a part of the EU, Iceland abides by certain agreements which it had signed with the European Union. There are many factors which are related to the international relations of Iceland, among them the major is marine sector. This sector might also be the reason behind Iceland not being a member of European Union. There is no significant enmity of Iceland with other nations but countries like Norway and Germany are more close to this state. Iceland over and again has got involved in disputes with Denmark regarding the Faroe Islands.
