Iceland has a number of
highland areas within its varied geographical landscapes. These
highlands are mostly formed by the lava and ashes that are accumulated as a result of the eruption of volcanoes. The
highlands of Iceland are approximately 400 to 500 meters high. People do not inhabit these
highland areas as they are not suitable for human habitation that much. But a number of rivers run through these
highland and vegetation can be found near these rivers only.
Highlands in

Iceland. Some of these are,

This highland is very frequently visited through its different ways to reach the mountains. Here the mountains are of various colors. Moreover the hot springs attract a number of visitors here. Its height is almost 600 meters.
- Central Highlands: This highland area is very popular in Iceland as a prime tourist destination. This highland area is full of the panoramic view of many mountains, glaciers, geothermal spots and other natural beauties. But travel in this highland area can be both difficult and dangerous without proper guidance.
