The word Viking is a corporate term of Nordic peoples, Danes, Swedes, Norwegians and the Icelanders who arrayed in the middle ages which was the age of Viking. The Vikings were avid travelers who continued raiding, trading and settling in other places or countries.
The Vikings were sea farers who were audacious. The elaboration of Viking Ship made the journey possible. The Viking ship with its flexible hull, keel and sail was much superior to other ship during that time. All the time the Vikings were not busy in trading and raiding alone.
In 19th century a Norwegian named Naddodd was sailing from Norway. He along with all his men lost their way. In the northwest they found a new place. They reached the eastern coast of Iceland and explored the surroundings. They returned back as they didn’t’ find any sign of human habitation. At the time of returning they saw that some snow was fallen on the mountains. Naddodd the Viking named that new land as Snaeland.
The next Viking who navigated to Iceland was a Swedish man named Gardar Svavarsson. As he wanted to gather much information about Iceland so he found that it was a big island by sailing around it. At the time of winter he resided in the northern part of Iceland. To live at that place they constructed houses. Gardar Viking completed his trip around the island and in the next summer he voyaged to some other land. Before leaving he named the island as Gardarsholmi which was similar to his name.
Another Viking named Floki Vilgerdarson, a Norwegian sailed to Gardarsholmi. He wanted to settle down in this place along with his family, friends and household. But one day Floki Viking also sailed away from this place to Norway by giving a new name to this island as Iceland.
