Icelandic Saga

Between the 12th and 13th centuries the Icelandic Saga was written. The documents written in the Icelandic Saga contained information about either the lives of specific people (as mentioned in the saga of Egil) or about whole communities (as mentioned in Eyrbyggja Saga or in Laxdaela Saga).

The people of Iceland have always believed Icelandic Saga as the most reliable source containing all the information about their history. One of the classes of sagas namely, the Saga of the Icelanders gives exclusive information about the earliest settlers of Iceland. Most settlers were accomplished families according to the sagas who left Norway instead of submitting to the growing power of the king. In the Icelandic settlement light was shredded on the Celtic admixture. The sagas are closely parallel to Irish literature as a literary composition which indicates that the impulse for saga writing comes from the inspirations of Celtic traditions.

Most of the Sagas of Iceland was written anonymously. In the world of literature the Sagas of Iceland has a special corner. Iceland's Sagas were written between the period of 1100AD and 1300AD. At a time when everybody was writing the Saga in Latin then Iceland's Sagas were written in Icelandic language. A lot of controversies occurred about whether the Sagas of Iceland are true history or pure fiction. Icelandic Sagas are as true as great literature.

The fate of Icelandic Saga which is a tragic loss can be related to the oldest story named The Saga of the Heath-Slayings. Some of the heroes of Icelandic Saga are Gunnar, Skarpheoinn, Grettir, and so on. In almost many homes of Iceland, the sagas can still be seen.

The Museum of Saga cherish the key moments of Iceland's history. In this vivacious museum both Icelandic and foreign visitors gets the opportunity of learning Icelandic history.
