Gaels had migrated to the island of Iceland long after settling base all over Europe. Scientific genetic research has given out some interesting facts. Gaelic ancestry has been attributed to most of the females of Iceland but not the men. Many historical researches have also taken place in the 20th century regarding the Gaelic origin of the Icelanders. These researches have drawn a conclusion that slave trade during the Viking period might be the reason behind such disparity in the genetic origin of males and females of Iceland. The genetic researches are of the conclusion that around 25% of males of Iceland have Gaelic influence but not the women.

Gaelic culture in Iceland is still very much prevalent. The love tales of Gaels are very popular among the inhabitants of Iceland. The clan of Gaels had originated during the commencement of the Christian era. Though researches opine that the Gaels were originally from Spain the current Gaelic community can be located in the north of Europe. The Gaels during the Roman times were also referred to as the Celts. The period of the spread of Gaelic culture can also be associated with the European Iron age. Today the main bases of Gaels are in Scotland and Ireland. Gaelic language and culture are very much prevalent in these two countries.

Though presence of Gaels in Iceland can be seen the populace of Iceland which is extremely mixed with the other European clans, but the influence can be well detected.
