Danes

There is a significant portion of Danes living in Iceland. The reason for this might be because of the fact that until 1944 Iceland was officially under the control of Denmark. The term Danes can also be referred to as Danish or people of Denmark. This Danish clan itself is of German origin but this community is mostly found in all the Scandinavian countries. Danes are called the descendants of the Vikings and Norwegians. As the country of Iceland was under Viking control for a significant period in history the presence of Danes can also be noticed. But it should also be mentioned that the number of Danes in Iceland are comparatively less. Danes however were the first ethnic group who called Iceland their home.

Danes in Iceland were further more patronized during the long rule of Danish monarchy over the country of Iceland. Danes during that time considered Iceland as a part of Denmark and a jewel on their crown. Even after independence the umbilical relationship between the two countries continue and few Danes still live in Iceland. The culture, traditions and language of the Danes has influenced the people of Iceland significantly. However cultural and ethnically the countries were not that different ever.

In the present time Denmark and Iceland share peaceful relation. Cultural, economic and military relationships are prevalent between these two countries. The Danes living in Iceland share similar culture and traditions and completely blends with the Icelanders.
