Icelandic architecture is quite visible in Reykjavik, the country’s capital, where more than 70% of population dwells. Architecture in Iceland not only comprises of some fabulous museums, churches or artworks but is also prevalent in the common man's building. Icelandic Architecture is reminiscent of Scandinavian Art work as it is none other than a Nordic country. Majority of these buildings are found in the main shopping street Laugavegur. The houses are manly low-rise, made of wooden frames and are laded with corrugated iron and steel and they all have stylish small gardens.
Other than houses and buildings Iceland's architecture is well scripted in their museums, churches, spas and bridges. Some excellent piece of the Iceland's architecture includes famous churches namely Hallgrim's Church, Bessastaoir, Vik Church, Steingrimsson memorial chapel .Out door Spa and geothermal swimming pool of the city are the modern architectural pieces. Stained glass work in the President's Church and Geometric Pattern Stained Glass work in some other church are notable Icelandic architecture.
Entire spectrum of the Reykjavik city shows its architectural patterns some where or the other. Hallgrim church is another mentionable Icelandic architecture. The poured concrete construction and wooden work makes Hallgrim church unique and stand out creation of mankind.
The Cultural and Historic value buildings are taken care by the Department of Historic Building of Iceland. Last century in Iceland witnessed the geothermal water to heat building and it was introduced in a school in Reykjavik. Some Modern piece of architecture in Reykjavik includes the Pearl or Perlan, a dome structure built on tanks to store natural hot water for the Icelanders. Iceland's architecture can be considered as a strong connecting link between Iceland's cultures.
