The site of the present City Park in Budapest was actually a swamp where the election of Hungarian kings was held during the 13th to 16th centuries. This swamp was then restored into an English-style park in the 18th and 19th centuries. The park was completed in the year 1896, to commemorate the centenary celebrations of the Hungarian history.
The main entrance of the Budapest City Park is via the Heroes’ Square. The Millennium Monument, Palace of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts are all located around the square.
