The Castle District of Budapest is famous for its enchanting museums, historical attractions, winding streets and modern cafes. The major attractions in the Castle District include Matthias Church, Royal Palace and Fishermen’s Bastion.
The earliest inhabitants of the Castle District had arrived here in the 13th century after the destructive attack from the Mongols. The actual upliftment of the Castle District started when the Royal Court of Hungary shifted here. During the 15th century, under the rule of King Matthias, Castle District became an influential city. The Turks invaded the Castle District of Budapest in the year 1541 and were the rulers till 1686. After the Turks left, the Habsburg moved in and the district became a government district. The battles of 1944-45 ruined this place and again, it was reconstructed.
The Wienna Gate Square is the sole symbol of an old-town gate, which is the northern entrance to the district. Maria Magdalene Tower, which was a Franciscan church of the medieval times and the remnants still remain. Just behind this Tower is the Military Museum, where one can have a taste of history and culture. The centre of the Castle District is the Holy Trinity Square. The Old Town Hall, House of Hungarian Wines, Holy Trinity Statue and Matthias Church are located near the Trinity Square.
