Hungary at the Olympics has performed tremendously well since its first participation in the Olympic games. Hungary at the Olympics has carved a niche for itself with its brilliant performances down the ages. The first time Hungary had participated at the Olympics was in the year 1896 and in the very same year it won 6 medals. 2 gold medals were won by Alfred Hajos for Men's 100 meters freestyle and Men's 1200 meters. Nandor Dani won the silver medal for Men's 800 meters swimming competition. Hungary also won bronze medals for Men's Marathon, Men's Single Tennis and Men's 100 Athletics.
Also, in the year 1952, Hungary bagged 2 medals for their performance at the Olympic games. This year Hungary won 16 gold medals for Men's light middleweight boxing, Fencing, Women's 100 meters freestyle, Football and Women's 200-meter breaststroke. The silver medals were won for events such as Men's 25 m rapid-fire pistol, Gymnastics, Men's featherweight wrestling and Kayaking. Bronze medals were won by Hungarians for Fencing, Modern Pentathlon and Gymnastics.
The year 1972 was the most eventful in Hungarian history of Olympic games. This year, Hungarians won 35 medals in total. Gold medals were won by Men's Bantamweight, Fencing, Men's Greco-Roman Middleweight Wrestling and Modern Penthathlon among many others. Silver and bronze medals were won for several different sports. In 1980 Olympics, Hungary was ranked 6th after winning 32 medals.
Thus, Hungarian participation and performance at the Olympics games has been stupendously well down the ages and it continues with its glorious past.
