Even the costume of Mikolas resembles that of Santa Claus, with the exception of just a bishop's hat.
The second Hungary Christmas is celebrated with the rest of the world on 25th December. Christmas in Hungary is referred to here as 'Szent-este' or 'Holy Evening' in English. Like people around the world, Hungarians too celebrate Christmas with their families around the Christmas trees, and children are presented with gifts, which are believed to have been presented by Baby Jesus and his angels.
Midnight Mass is necessarily attended by one and all. Another significant Hungarian Christmas tradition are the Nativity Plays, which are performed by groups of boys and girls at the houses of their neighbors. They use puppets, special costumes and musical instruments to make the Nativity shows more entertaining.
