The
Hungary Police, the Border Guards and the Customs and Excise Authority are the 3 primary bodies associated with law enforcement in Hungary.
Hungary Police is an independent organization, which is responsible for administering law enforcement at a national level. Since, Hungary has no separate municipal police force for regulating laws in the rural region, Hungary Police is the sole body vested with the responsibility of maintaining law in all parts of the country. The National Police Headquarters is the apex body of the Hungarian Police and this headquarters has separate wings to look after the various law enforcement branches of the country.
The Directorate General for Crime Investigations is responsible for looking after the following directorates:
- Financial Investigation Directorate
- Organized Crime Directorate
- International Law Enforcement Cooperation Center
- Criminal Logistics Directorate
- Forensics and Research Institute
- Analysis and Coordination Directorate
The Directorate General for Public Security is responsible for looking after the following areas:
- Police Administration Department
- Traffic Enforcement Department
- Airport Security Service
- General Police Duties Department
The Directorate General for Economic Affairs is responsible for looking after the following branches:
- Budgetary Planning Department
- Technical and Construction Department
- I.T. Department
There are also special units and regional organizations operating under Hungary Police.
