The study of the
history of Hungary involves lots of information on the significant past events that the country had once undergone.
It is assumed that during the middle of the 1st millennium B.C., the Hungarians' ancestors moved towards south from the lands they used to share with other Ugrian peoples. Here the Bulgar-Turkic pastoral tribes influenced them a lot and brought a great change in their life style. As a result, their chief occupation also changed from mounted nomads to herding and they started residing in a tribal society.
In the mean time, during the course of migrations, the people of Hungary came into contact with various nomadic empires. Basically, the Hungarian history can be divided into the following sections:
- Medieval Hungary, from 896 to 1526
- Ottoman occupation, from 1526 to 1686
- Habsburgs and the Austro-Hungarian empire, from 1686 to 1918
- Interwar, from 1918 to 1941
- Hungary's participation in World War II (1941-1945)
- Soviet era, from 1945 to 1989
Finally, during the late 1980s, Hungary moved towards the multi-candidate democracy and started giving stress on the market-oriented economy.
The
history of Hungary is very interesting and not only the local people, but also the tourists enjoy knowing about the country.
