The National Assembly of Hungary or the Orszaggyules is the main political body within the framework of Hungary legislature. It is actually Hungary's legislature, which governs the Hungary's politics and is the main body responsible for effective administration of the country. The primary function of the National Assembly of Hungary is to give approval to the legislations passed by the Prime Minister of Hungary. The general election in Hungary elects members to the total number of 386 seats to the National Assembly of Hungary. Out of these 386 members, 176 are elected in single-seat constituencies, the other 158 candidates are elected through proportional representation, while the remaining 58 seats are called compensation seats, which are distributed among the candidates on the basis of the votes “lost”.
The parliament of Hungary is also called the National Assembly. It is a unicameral body and the 386 candidates elected to it, are elected on a basis of a 4-year term. Bills that are introduced in the Parliament are presented for debate, before the 25 standing committees of the Parliament. However, legislations passed by Hungary's legislature, can be contested at the Constitutional Court of Hungary. The National Assembly continues to be held in the Hungarian Parliament Building since its first conference in 1902. The Hungarian Parliament Building is located in its capital city of Budapest.
