Central European University is apt for those students who are thinking of receiving higher education. It is actually a US-licensed and recognized university based in the Hungarian capital city of Budapest. The primary goal of this institute is to encourage the development of societies in the post-Communist nations through education.
In 1991 CEU was set up Czech Republic, Prague and Budapest. It is assumed that the establishment of the university resulted from the initiative of the different Central European intellectuals. After acquiring financial assistance from George Soros, these great personalities founded the university.
In 2003, the Central European University had around 100 faculties and 926 pupils from 76 countries. The main courses offered by this institute include the Master's and PhD programs in law, business, social sciences, environmental sciences, mathematics and public policy. The official language that CEU use is English.
Soros has contributed CEU with a total amount of €420 million. This is indeed the biggest private donation that a Hungarian university ever had. In 1988, the CEU Business School was founded independently of CEU. It was then recognized as the International Management Center. The Central European University is in fact the first institution behind the Iron Curtain that awarded the American-style MBA degrees.
