Hungarian rock music is an outcome of the changing socio and political scenario of Hungary, a central European country. It is during 1960s in Hungary that people came across this new genre of music. Rock music in Hungary came as a protest to the contemporary political scenario.
Rock music of Hungary rose in protest against the influence of political bodies on music. The demand for liberty in the spontaneous expression of art was advocated. Rock music is representative of the contemporary society of Hungary. Thus in one-way rock music is also the mirror of the cultural life of people.
In Hungary, several bands were formed with young talents. These bands came to the forefront with their set of rock music. Omega, Fonograf, Illes and Lokomotiv GT are some of the popular bands of
Hungarian rock music.
Along with the rock music bands of Hungary, many singers gained popularity. Zsuzsa Koncz, Sarolta Zalatnay, Klari Katona, Kati Kovacs and Peter Mate became very popular in the country. Talent shows and other musical programs brought them to the limelight. They became familiarized with the common people of the nation. Rock oratorios and rock operas were introduced in Hungary, during 1980s.
