According to the Greenland Transportation Profile of 2007 the roads of Greenland need much development and improvement as no roads are found between most of the towns. The
transportation between towns takes place either by sea or by airways. Among merchant marine there are all total three ships. For transportation there are all total 14 airports in Greenland among which 9 airports have paved runways and 5 airports have unpaved runways.
Kangerlussuaq Airport is the largest International airport of Greenland. This is the only airport which has the largest runway.
Greenland being an island nation, water route plays the most significant role in the transport system. The two passenger ships and one cargo ship handles most of the load of marine transport in Greenland. Sisimiut is the major port in Greenland that serves as the terminal of these ships.
