Lifestyle in Greenland

Greenland is the largest island with 57, 000 population. The Inuit people migrated to Greenland from Canada. It has been a colony of Denmark. So the Lifestyle of the people is a mixture of indigenous tradition as well as modern ways. Greenland Lifestyle is very much dictated by the cold weather.

The Norse were the settlers, who inhabited the south and southwest coast depending on their cattle, sheep, goats, seal and caribou hunts for nearly five centuries. With the growing cold of Greenland most of the farming lands were covered by ice. As they were not expert hunters like the Inuit they could not survive. Sustenance activities like hunting, fishing are getting more and more difficult. Thus traditional way of life is in danger.

Indigenous people still use dog-sled for hunting. They use self-made utensils, made of stone. Tupilak and various handicraft products made by them are well-demanded in the market. The cultural life of the indigenous people is quite amazing. Drum dance and drum songs are highly respected by them. Greenland Kayak performance is one of their primary cultural activities.

Greenlandic as well as Danish are spoken by the people. As compared to the Lifestyle of the city people, the village people lead a simple life. Nuuk, the capital of the country is inhabited by people from various origins. Due to the geographical location the life of the people are full of adventures.

Greenland Lifestyle is diverse and rich as it holds both the indigenous way and westernized lifestyle.
