Atuagagdliutit is one of the leading newspapers in Greenland. Greenland has two widely circulated newspapers that are very popular among the people of Greenland and Atuagagdliutit is one of those two newspapers. Atuagagdliutit is actually known as the Atuagagdliutit Gronlandsposten. This name is the full version of this newspaper of Greenland. The second portion of this full name suggests the name of another newspaper. Gronlandsposten was actually a Danish newspaper. But now these two newspapers have merged.
Atuagagdliutit was previously a newspaper that was known by the name of Kalaallisut and was published in Greenlandic language only. But after this newspaper has merged with the other Danish newspaper, Gronlandsposten, the newspaper is now published in both Greenlandic and Danish languages. Atuagagdliutit is now published twice a week. This newspaper is published on Tuesday and Thursday only.
Atuagagdliutit was started in the year 1861. This newspaper was started to safeguard the culture of Greenland. It was started by an inspector, named, Hinrich Rink. He was motivated to publish this newspaper as he thought that the people are loosing their connection with root of culture of Greenland, specially the Inuit people in Greenland. That is the reason newspaper initially was concerned with the cultural aspects of life in Greenland though it used to serve other news as well. Gradually, Atuagagdliutit moved away from its basic concerns and become popular as a medium of presenting news of outside world. This newspaper was previously published only once a month. But after wading through a long way, it is now published twice a week.
