Greenland government was established after the country attained home rule in 1979. Greenland was under the rule of Denmark and after it freed itself from the Danish power it gained for itself a full self government in 1981.
Greenland government comprises of a 27 member
uni-cameral parliament called
Landsting and a premier. Greenland government is elected by the Greenland parliament, Landsting. Landsting holds all the power and the 31 members of the parliament are elected for a period of 4 years.
Danish folketing receives 2 representatives. Divided into 3 districts, the country has the
Danish monarch as the nominal head who is represented by a high commissioner.
Greenland government together with an administrative section controlled by Greenland parliament forms the Home Rule Administration. The pivotal role in the Greenland Government is played by the cabinet. The
cabinet comprises of the following heads:
- The Premier's Office
- Ministry of Finance
- Ministry of housing and infrastructure
- Ministry of Fisheries,Hunting and settlements
- Ministry of health and environment
- Ministry of Culture,education,the church and research
- Ministry of Social affairs and labor
