Baffin Bay

The Baffin Bay in Greenland lies on the west of the island. The Baffin Bay is a strip of sea which connects the two main oceans of the world which are Atlantic and Arctic. The presence of icebergs in the water of the Baffin Bay makes it almost impossible to navigate through the waters. The depth of the bay is around nine thousand feet. Though Baffin Bay is termed as a bay it is actually a sea. The sight of the Baffin Bay from Greenland is incredible and tourists from around the world visit the western coast of Greenland to enjoy the spectacular sight. The geographical extension of this strait is from 68 degree north to 78 degree north and 54 degree west to 76 degree west.

The Baffin Bay of Greenland is famous for being a hub of seal and whale fishing. But fishing can only be done during the summer months as during the winters the bay is fully frozen. The Baffin land falls in between the Baffin Bay and Davis Strait. This bay was first explored in the 16th century by a British man. In the east of Baffin Bay lies the island of Greenland and to the west there is Canada. The Ellesmere Island lies at the north of the Baffin Bay. The bay is frequented by hunters and explorers for the presence of Beluga whales in the region. It would be dangerous to venture out in this region as the area is filled with ice.
