The Greenland economy primarily thrives on fishing. It generates the larger share of revenue for the country and thus gets the backing of the Government in this regard. Another important contributor to the economy of Greenland is its public sector. The public sector in Greenland comprises of the municipalities and the public enterprises. Although Greenland is known to have resources of minerals and hydrocarbons, they have not been utilized to their full potential. The mining industry of Greenland has developed on account of the extraction of lead, zinc, iron and cryolite. Reserves of molybdenum, copper, coal and uranium have also been discovered. The industries of Greenland mainly center on fish processing furs and handicrafts. The Danish Krone is the currency of Greenland. The chief export commodities of Greenland include fish and fish products. The import commodities include manufactured goods, petroleum products, machinery and transport equipment and food. The development of tourism has contributed significantly to the economy of Greenland.
