Active part in the society was always taken by the Greenland Women who were Inuit. In the future the scope for the Greenland Women on the labor market was reinforced. A gradual improvement is taking place in the delegacy of Greenland Women in the public offices. In the year 2002 among the politicians 35% of the elected members were Females of Greenland who were elected in a general election by the Greenland people. In the Cabinet 2 seats out of 8seats has been held by the Greenland Women.
Greenland Women founded a Union named The Union of Women's Associations. The Union of Greenland Women was established on 22nd June in 1960. Now the union consists of 5000 members. The objective of this union was to unite the Women of Greenland, help them and cheering them for better education. Through needlecraft the Union helps in the improvement of family conditions of Greenland. All the Greenland's Women can become member of this Association. Beside the Greenland Women men and children can also join this Association.
Umiaq is a journey of the Inuit and a family boat. It is also referred as Greenland Women's boat. It is so called because the boat was rowed by women and it was loaded with household goods, children, summer tent, etc.
