Holy Week is another Christian celebration that is celebrated with much religious norms and customs in Greenland including other Christian countries as well. Though in Greenland Eastern Christianity is followed, but the basic idea behind the Holy Week remains the same. The Holy Week is a part of some other associated Christian celebration that culminates in the observance of Easter Sunday. The other religious ceremonies that are associated with the Holy Week, are, the Great Lent, Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday and Good Friday. All these are religiously observed in Greenland as well.
Holy Week is the religious celebration that follows the Great Lent, which is the great fasting part of Christian religion. The Holy Week actually religiously commemorate the last week in the life of Jesus Christ. That is why, Holy Week ends with the Good Friday, the day when Christ was crucified. The days which are included in the Holy Week, are also religious holidays in the Christian countries. After Holy Week, begins the religious ceremony of Easter Sunday which commemorates the Resurrection of Christ.
In Greenland the Holy Week is observed according to the Eastern Christianity. In this form of Christianity, services for Matins are held in the evening of the prior day. In this services there is a service that is held from Sunday to Tuesday and is called the Bridegroom service as here Christ is imagined as a bridegroom and the hymns are also written in this way. But the religious celebration of Holy Week differs in many other Christian nations. Greenland celebrates Holy Week with strict religious observances.
