National Bank of Greece



National Bank of Greece is one of the most important banks that play an important role in the Greece Economy. This is one of the oldest and largest banks of Greece, which enjoys a healthy international reputation, especially in the southeastern part of Europe and eastern part of Mediterranean.

History of the National Bank of Greece

National Bank of Greece was established in the year 1841, and its name had been included in the Athens Stock Exchange since 1880. This bank of Greece can justly boast about its years of great performance, during which, it had been serving mankind with the best form of banking services. As a result of the bank’s expansion objective, a number of other commercial groups have emerged such as the National Mortgage Bank and the Bank founded Ethiniki Hellenic General Insurance Company.

The Cultural Foundation of the National Bank

While celebrating its 125th anniversary, the National Bank of Greece decided to come up with an important foundation that would specifically forward all kinds of meaningful support in the sphere of science, arts and humanities within the country. This important cultural section of the bank was finally set up on 1st of April, 1966, and it begun its operations from 1974. This Cultural Foundation of the National Bank, which was formed under the decree 311 under the supervision of Georgios Mavros, is also known as MIET (Morfotiko Idryma Ethnikis Trapezis).

Thus, it can be concluded that the National Bank of Greece is one of the most worthy commercial banks in Greece.
