History of Greece Media The media in Greece was under extensive government control. The extent of regulation affected not only the legal consequences, but financial sponsorship as well. Government authority in the media has been a significant component in Greece since the press in Greece has traditionally been associated to political parties.
These associations had made party leaders the editors of the newspapers supporting the party in some instances. During 1967 to 1974, several newspapers had to close down due to the deconstructive effects of the dictatorship.
