Easter Customs in Greece

Easter happens to be the most important Greece Events and Festivals. Thus Easter Customs in Greece are quite elaborate. Greece Easter Customs include 40 days of fast, out of which one week is selected for complete fast, when nothing is eaten apart from natural food. During this week, no meat, fish, poultry or diary products are consumed. During the rest of the three weeks, three days in each week are taken as meatless days.

Easter Customs at Greece starts with the preparation of Easter, which includes cleaning and decorating the houses as well as the Churches. On the day of Easter, grand food is offered to Jesus first and after being blessed, it is consumed by the people. Lamb is considered to be important part of the Easter food. Needless to say that Easter Egg has got its own value.

The Greeks do not celebrate Easter on the same date as the Catholic and the Protestant countries celebrate it. The orthodox churches in Greece follow the Julian calendar while calculating the day for Easter.
