WGC-American Express Championship
The WGC-American Express Championship is one of the four World Golf championships that take place every year. The prize money won by golfers here is counted as official money on both the US PGA Tour and the European Tour. The event is played in the stroke play format. From 2007, the event would be renamed as WGC-CA Championship and would replace the Ford Championship at Doral on the US PGA Tour schedule.
In 2006, it will be held at The Grove in Hertfordshire, England but from next year it will be played at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa. There is no cut for golfers in this tournament. Invitations are sent to top 50 players in the Official World Golf Rankings and to some other players from the six other International Federation of PGA Tours.
Tiger Woods won the 2005 WGC-American Express Championship pocketing $1,300,000 from the tournament purse of $7,500,000.
