The INTERNATIONAL
The INTERNATIONAL is the only tournament that uses the Modified Stablefrd scoring system. It is an official feature in the US PGA Tour and has been played at the Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colorado from 1986, the year the tournament was first played. Being held in the month of August till date the tournament has been moved to July in the new US PGA Tour roster. With this change in dates, the organizers hope that the top golfers will not give the tournament a miss as they had been doing in recent years. The reason behind this is that The INTERNATIONAL was held only one week before a major championship.
System of scoring at The INTERNATIONAL
The Modified Stableford system gives golfers points for each hole based on his score relative to par. It has been designed in such a way so that the golfers get rewarded for taking chances and go for birdies. The scoring operates as follows:
- Albatross (double eagle): +8
- Eagle: +5
- Birdie: +2
- Par: 0
- Bogey: -1
- Double bogey or worse: -3
Holes in one are treated as the score relative to par; an ace on a par-3 hole would be considered an eagle and scored as +5.
The INTERNATIONAL was won by Dean Wilson in 2006, beating Tom Lehmann in a playoff. In the process, he got richer by $990,000.
Tournament schedule and tickets
