Honda Classic
Founded in 1972, as the Jackie Gleason's Inverrary Classic, Honda Classic got its present name in 1982 after American Motors became the sponsor in 1981. The event was first played at the Inverrary Golf Club in Lauderhill, Florida and after making its way through different other courses and changes in name the 2007 event will be held at the PGA National Resort & Spa's Champion Course.
- Jackie Gleason's Inverrary Classic (1972)
- Jackie Gleason Inverrary-National Airlines Classic (1973)
- Jackie Gleason-Inverrary Classic (1974-80)
- American Motors Inverrary Classic (1981)
- Honda Inverrary Classic (1982-85)
- Honda Classic (1984- )
The Honda Classic , however, has failed to attract top golfers despite offering a prize money comparable to the other championships outside the top nine. Tiger Woods has never played here while Ernie Els and Phil Mickelson have stopped taking part from 1999 and 2002 respectively. The reason for this is that it is held just two weeks before the fifth major and four weeks before The Masters.
The 2006 event offered total prize money of $5,500,000 with the winner getting $990,000. Luke Donald is the reigning champion.
