BellSouth Classic
BellSouth Classic is an annual event on the US PGA Tour. Played in May, it is held at par-72 The Players Club of Sugarloaf in Duluth, Georgia . The tournament was born in 1967 and was christened Atlanta Classic. After that its name was changed many times.
- Atlanta Classic (1967-81)
- Georgia -Pacific Atlanta Golf Classic (1982-88)
- BellSouth Atlanta Golf Classic (1989-91)
- BellSouth Classic (1992- )
The tournament was played just before The Augusta Masters which gave the players an opportunity to increase sponsor exemptions. However, with the change in schedule this trend will cease to be in effect.
Phil Mickelson pocketed $954,000 after winning the $5,300,000 BellSouth Classic this year. If he manages to win in 2007 he will complete a hat trick of wins at this meet as he had also won in 2005.
Tournament schedule and tickets

BellSouth Classic used to be a prelude to the Augusta Masters, therefore, attracting many top golfers from across the world. It needs to be seen whether it will be able to attract the top golfers in this new schedule. As we continue on this tour we will learn about the other tournaments in the US PGA Tour.
