Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial
Originally started as the Colonial Invitational in 1946, the tournament has gone a sea of name changes. From 2007 it would be known as the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. From 2003-06 it was known as the Bank of America Colonial , after the name of the sponsors. It is an annual event on the US PGA Tour being held in May at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas .

Other facts about the Bank of America Colonial
- It is one of the four invitational tournaments on US PGA Tour.
- Bank of America Colonial has been played at the same venue since its inception which is a record on the Tour.
- The tournament honors the winners with a Scottish tartan jacket keeping in mind the birth of the sport in Scotland .
- There is a “Wall of Champions” on the first tee where the names and scores of winners, dating back to the 1941 US Open, are carved.
- Another unique thing about the tournament is the “Champion's Choice” invitation. Each year the reigning champion selects two promising golfers from the circuit, who have not qualified, to participate in the tournament.
- Annika Sorenstam played here in 2003, becoming the second woman, after Babe Zaharis, to play in the PGA Tour. She, however, failed to make the cut.
Tim Herron won here in 2006, taking home $1,080,000 from the tournament's purse of $6,000,000.
Tournament schedule and tickets
The next edition of the Bank of America Colonial will be known as the Crowne Plaza Invitational. It will be held from 21-27 May. Daily tickets are priced at $30 on 23 rd and 24 th May while the remaining days are priced at $45 per ticket. Tickets go on sale from 1 March, 2007.
