The Utah Energy Solutions Championship was first played in 1992 and since then it has been part of the Nationwide Tour. The tournament was not played for two years (1997-98) in between. It has always been played at the Willow Creek Country Club in Sandy, Utah. It was started as the Ben Hogan Utah Classic and came to be known by its present name since 2003.

Craig Kanada won the 2006 Utah Energy Solutions Championship by beating Gavin Coles by one stroke. Though he played a horrendous final round he still scraped through because of his big lead that he had built in the first three rounds. As the winner he received a cheque of $ 85,500 out of the tournament prize purse of $ 475,000.
