The PalmettoPride Classic was formed in 2006 and is among a group of tournaments which have come up in the last few years. This meet has immediately been incorporated in to the Nationwide Tour . The Daniel Island Club in Charleston, South Carolina had hosted the inaugural event.
As with Brandt Snedeker at the Permian Basin Charity Golf Classic, Michael Sim also had a dip in form in the final round but ultimately held on to clinch the 2006 PalmettoPride Classic in a playoff. Ken Duke played a superb fourth round to level the scores after Sim had taken a six-stroke lead in the earlier rounds. In the playoff, Sim held his nerve to clinch the title. He was awarded the winner's cheque of $ 90,000 out of the tournament's purse of $ 500,000. The meet is generally held in the third week of October.
