The Jacob's Creek Open Championship was first played in 2002 and was known by this name. However, in the following year it was changed to Jacob's Creek Open which remained till last year, i.e. 2005. From this year the tournament's name has been reverted to its original one. The tournament is hosted by the Royal Adelaide Golf Club, one of the top golf clubs in Australia. The tournament is co-sanctioned by both the Nationwide Tour and the PGA Tour of Australasia. It is the second of the two tournaments to be held outside the USA.
Paul Sheehan came from behind to win the 2006 Jacob's Creek Open Championship in a playoff. Michael Sim was comfortably leading after three rounds but Sheehan played a brilliant final round to level the scores. He received the winner's cheque of $ 134,194 out of the tournament's purse of $ 745,525.
