Women's World Cup of Golf

The Women's World Cup of Golf kicks off the LPGA Tour for the year. The tournament is a very new one with its first edition being held in 2005. From the start South Africa has been hosting the event and will also do so in 2007. It is a team event where the players represent their respective countries. Each team has two members and there are a total of 20 teams taking part. The tournament is played over two rounds.

Sweden clinched the 2006 Women's World Cup of Golf with a thumping victory over Scotland. The Swedish team, comprising of world No. 1 Annika Sorenstam and Liselotte Neumann, took the lead in the first round itself and ended up with a three-stroke victory over their rivals. Both members received $110,000 each in prize money out of the tournament's purse of $ 1 million. The meet is held towards the end of January.
